New reconditioning centre

Every day 1,500 appliances like printers, fax, etc. and devices from Telekom and other manufacturers were reconditioned at two locations in Hanover. Workshops and warehouses, with 275 employees, could be found in an area covering 16,000m².

The Key process:
Defective appliances are received, identified and pooled into repair lots. The customer receives a fully functional new or used appliance in exchange. Parts for the repair of the appliance are provided in co-ordinated quantities in the assembly area. The reconditioned appliances are collected from the assembly area, stored and allocated for customer supplies.

viaLog was assigned

to combine logistics areas and workshops from several locations in one central location covering 10,000m², to implement a material flow concept covering layout, equipment and IT support, as well as managing the planning and coordination of all relocations.

Choice of location and assembly concept

Three halls covering a total area of 10,000m² were completely refurbished at Telekom’s „Am TÜV“ location in Hannover-Wülfel. viaLog developed a flexible assembly concept. Surface modules and traffic routes were designed so that, even with a change in the functional profile, new workshops and new technology can be introduced while maintaining the infrastructure.

Automatic guided vehicle system
Five vehicles were introduced for the driverless transport of containers and boxes. The vehicles can carry six containers and pull a box with the aid of a roller mechanism. They serve 20 stations within the workshop area.

Horizontal circulation carousels
In the automated warehouse of the company Construktor six carousels on seven levels house a total of 6,700 storage spaces. Two height-adjustable platforms provide access to all of the storage spaces.

Vertical tray lift

The automated small parts warehouse follows the same principle of "goods to man". Three shuttle units with a height of 5m and 200 trays offer enough space for a further 3,400 containers. A Warehouse management system (WMS) from the manufacturer PSI/ECI comes into force, controlling all of the above mentioned technology, administering all storage areas, managing the transport assignments and acting as the interface to the commercial IT programmes.

Bin Conveying technology

Container handling technology from the company Transnorm simply and effectively connects all warehousing areas: Incoming goods, the horizontal circulation carousels, the vertical tray lift and the packing department are circularly connected.

People and ergonomics
The workspace and all procedures are thought through ergonomically. The handling technology has a low sound intensity while air conditioning and the construction of all building and handling components to ESD guidelines ensure an exceptional working environment.
